Observations
- Trainees receive guidelines for observation sessions, take daily notes, and write a summary paper after each placement.
- Students will participate in two separate observation placements. For summer students, these take place during the first interim year of the course. For academic-year students, observation takes place during the year of the course.
- Each placement consists of a minimum of two weeks in a classroom directed by an AMI-Elementary trained teacher. Arrangements must have pre-approval of the Director of Training.
Practice Teaching
Students will spend approximately five weeks in two classrooms directed by AMI-Elementary trained teachers to refine their presentation skills and to experience the life of a working classroom. Student teachers will work closely with their cooperating teachers to introduce a variety of materials and concepts to elementary children.
For summer students, the practice teaching component is scheduled in the second interim year. For academic-year students, practice teaching is scheduled during the year of their course.
All arrangements are made only with the pre-approval of the Director of Training. Students and cooperating teachers will receive guidelines for the successful completion of this component, and students will be observed and evaluated during practice teaching sessions.
